A Hawk on Gilded Wing

Up in the sky I circle round
Where the wind's the only sound
So high above the solid ground
I watch the world with ease.

With keen eyesight I see the breeze
Like a wave upon the seas
It moves so softly through the trees
And holds a raucous song.

I see a mob of crows in throng
Sensing, though, a subtle wrong
I spy one who does not belong
And stoop on gilded wing.

A song of victory I sing
Change is what my dive will bring
And when my feathers touch her wing
"I'm lost," I hear her say.

"There is no need of gods to pray.
Do not try to run away.
I bring not death but life today
If with me you'll fly.

"I've seen the look within your eye
As you watch the wide, blue sky.
You long to be such as I;
A hawk upon the wind."

I looked at her and fiercely grinn'd.
And she dropped her head, chagrinned.
She spoke as if I knew she sinned,
"However did you know?"

I pointed to a pair below,
A warrior with bard in tow.
"Green eyes the same as yours did glow
With fated destiny.

"Within you both 'tis plain to see
Spirits yearning to be free.
A life unlike your family;
Adventures to be tried.

"So to the sun we'll soar and glide.
Up warm thermals you shall ride
If you will travel at my side
A hawk you will become.

She looked towards the blazing sun;
Watched the two friends having fun.
"My wildest dream to me has come."
She firmly grasps my hands.

And now she soars above the lands
Crow transformed, now hawk she stands
At last released from social bands;
Free spirit now unbound.
