| The Hawk and the Jaguar By Susan A. Rice Copyright © October 14, 2001 Susan A. Rice All Rights Reserved Come here child and listen to my tale I'll sit on the stool, and you on that pale. This is a story about the best of friends I'll tell you the story that never ever ends. It is a timeless piece for all to see About two spirits that needed to be free. It started many long years ago How many exactly, none will ever know, But it is still an interesting yarn to tell, The hawk and the jaguar. Yes, I know it well. The jaguar was black as a moonless night. The hawk would soar in effortless flight. While one ran on pads so soft The other used wings to stay aloft Together they would dance and play Enjoying each other's company every day. Sometimes the two did not see eye to eye Often shake heads and breathing a sigh Yet deep down a secret known by the two That friendships like these were few. Not always understanding why something is done Never diminished their love or their fun. Because both knew a simple fact It was all in the differences of how they act One was a bird and the other a cat They could never dispute that. Though many things were the same Other traits none would tame But that was the most important thing It enables both souls to sing So you see child in this pair Is the greatest love that two can share And while on the outside differences exist All of that would fade with the mist As the two would travel side by side Facing each experience in stride. And as they journeyed through that life They over came many days of strife In the end, always stronger than before Fighting together, beak and claw. Spending time together and apart Knowing the love within each other's heart |
